Robert Smith Forrest (1871-1943) was a Scottish portrait painter and etcher who exhibited between 1908 and 1934.

This painting shows an artist's portrayal from the top of McDougall Hill looking south and west towards Rossdale and the river valley. The painting includes the Edmonton Hotel, the Edmonton Brewing and Malting Co., and the City Flour Mills.

This painting was used as the frontispiece for Ella May Walker's book of historical fiction "Fortress North" (1947).
